Larisse was a Master’s student in Agroecosystems from Brazil and a visiting international research student at the Food Sovereignty Lab, funded by Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP). She was co-supervised by Dr. Ilyas Siddique and Dr. Hannah Wittman. Her master’s thesis had a mixed qualitative-quantitative approach focused on the on-farm diversity of used and underused food plants, as well as understanding how features as farm’s size, distance from markets, and labor availability influence crop diversification. Funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), this fieldwork was conducted with farmers in southern Brazil and complemented with data obtained by the open-source, non-profit farm management LiteFarm application. Larisse is an environmental engineer highly interested in sustainable food systems, especially agroforestry. She is also a certified social manager with experience in the non-profit sector with fundraising and volunteer management. Her interests also include scientific communication and interdisciplinary studies.
