Food Sovereignty Lab

About the Food Sovereignty Lab

Our group conducts academic and public research on diverse topics in land and food systems. The work aims to strengthen agricultural systems, support producer communities, and promote planetary health. We are all connected through an interest in researching and realizing more ecologically healthy and equitable (food) futures.

Research Focus

Our lab focuses on advancing understanding and supporting practitioners of agroecology around the world. Current research interests in the lab include social movements, agroecological transitions, food security and food sovereignty, agrarian political economy, rural and environmental sociology, and climate resilience in agriculture. Learn about our current work in Canada, South America, Europe, and Asia on the Research Projects page.

Past research topics have included labour, Indigenous food sovereignty, novel agrifood technologies, agricultural policy and planning, participatory plant breeding, and more. Past work can be found on the Academic Publications page.
